5 SIMPLE TRICKS ON HOW TO REDUCE DATA USAGE IN WINDOWS shows you how to reduce and save your data in windows PC in 1152 words.

Nowadays, everyone is connected to the internet and large amount of data is shared and used on the web but only few persons knows how to reduce data usage. World wide web has captured everyone in its web and google’s spiders (spider bots) are crawling everywhere on it.

Most of the users want to be connected all the time to the internet but what if you have limited data package(I personally hate limited data) and most of your internet data gets consumed(eaten, wasted) by Windows and other applications? One is not always happy when he or she checks the data balance and finds out that a chunk of the data is missing.

Let’s see the Reasons for Data Consumption:

The basic principle to solve a problem is to know the problem. First you need to know what or which application is consuming your data and how to reduce data usage.

Most of the time, data is being consumed by background apps and software updates.

Here is the list of 5 things which are consuming your data and how to reduce data usage in windows.

1. Windows Update:

Microsoft Windows is one of the best operating systems available in the market and they update their OS almost every week and sending them to their users.

Most of the users appreciate updates because they get new features and updated security. But these updates also consume up to 1 GB per month(sometimes more than that). Now the Question is; what if a person doesn’t have much data to spare on updates?

The answer is simple. Stop automatic updates in Windows. Dont worry its simple as it sounds. (Not really).

How To Stop Automatic Updates In Windows:

The process I am going to reveal to you works on almost every windows including Windows xp, Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10 and also on new Windows build.

Without further delay

For Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 operating systems:

==> Open Microsoft Windows as Administrator.

==> Press “Win+R” to open Run

==> Now in Run Type, select “services.msc” and press Enter.

==> Once services window is open. Scroll down and search for ‘Windows Update’. Double click to open it.

==> In the General Tab, select the “startup type” and there will be a drop down menu. In There, select “Disable”.

==> Now click on “Apply” and then select “Ok”.

Now your automatic updates are disabled in Windows 7, 8 & 8.1.

2. Stopping Google Update And Mozilla Firefox Update:

I am not encouraging you to stop updating your browsers. My point here is that you should stop auto-update of your browsers so they don’t update on their own. Auto-updates consume more data than manual updates.

How To Stop Mozilla Firefox And Google Chrome Auto Update:

For the Mozilla Firefox:

==> Open Firefox.

==> Press alt key, you will see drop down menus above in the window.

==> Click on tools drop down and then go to options.

==> You will see a menu tab on the Left side. Go to “Advanced” tab.

==> Now Go to the update tab in advanced menu.

==> Select “Never check for updates” in the check box menu.

==> Now just go back and your settings will be saved.

Hurray. Auto Updates on Firefox is now disabled.

Note: You can manually update your Firefox browser any time you want.

For Google Chrome browser:

==> Open Google chrome browser.

==> Now in the address bar where you usually put website address type this ‘about:plugins’.

==> Now find the plugin called ‘google update’.

==> Disable the google update plugin and save the setting by going back.

Now your google chrome updates are disabled.

3. Disable When Not In Use.

Always ensure that your internet connection is not active when not in use. By doing this, you will be saving yourself a huge data and of course battery. You can Disable your Internet connection by going to ‘Network and sharing center’.

4.YouTube, Daily Motion, Vimeo Etc

Most of us like to watch videos , listen to new songs, watch movie trailer, tutorials, documentaries, reviews, funny and cooking videos.

Watching videos on video sharing websites like YouTube, dailymotion, vimeo etc is so much fun but also it is one of the biggest reasons for data consumption.

If you spend more than 30 minutes on these sites, it will take more than 1gb of precious data from you.

How To Solve?

I am not saying that you should stop watching videos, watch them but in low or medium quality.

If you want to save some data then watch your videos in 360p or 240p.
This will save you more than 5000mb per month.

5. Torrent Downloads.

If you are a torrent user and you like to download movies, big softwares, games and their cracks etc from torrent then you should know that torrent is one of the biggest data eater.

How Does Torrent Work?

Torrent download works as peer-to-peer connection. A user uploads a file to torrent (this process is known as seeding) and then another user downloads the same file. The more people seed, the more speed will be provided for the downloads.

As you may know, so many files are being uploaded by multiple computers and there is no fixed server for the files, so no one can put a copyright to the uploaded file. That’s why torrent is the biggest piracy network.

So How Does Torrent Consume More Data Than Normal Download?

The big question now is how does torrent consume more data than normal downloads? As I mentioned earlier, while you are downloading from torrent, the torrent is constantly uploading same file from your computer. So if you download 1gb worth of files, it then means that you have also uploaded 1gb. This process is called seeding. So in this process you lost 2gb of data. (Amazing! Hahaha)

How To Save Data While Using Torrent?

I am not saying that you should stop using torrent. You can use it while saving your extra data. You just have to go through some settings in your torrent client e.g utorrent, bittorrent etc.

==> Open utorrent.

==> Go to options >> Preference >> Bandwidth

==> Set Maximum Upload rate to 14.

Now you are done, this settings will prevent seeding and further save data for you.

So that is all folks. Remember, all the above given tips are for informational bases and does also work, but one thing to note here is that sometimes data could be consumed by other apps that you have installed.
