Steps to backup your whatsapp chat and videos

How to backup Whatsapp on Android 

Step 1. On the main interface of the app, You will see a three dotted line at the top right corner of your screen. Tap on it.

Step 2. Navigate to Settings and head to Chat & Calls or Chat. Now tap on chat backup. Here, you will find the Google Drive Settings option. On the same page, Google Drive settings is positioned at the bottom.

You need to go through the process of setting up your Google Drive, indicating how often you want the backup to occur, email ID, the mode of internet connection, and whether or not videos should be backed up.

Step 3. Tap Backup to Google Drive. Here, you can set the backup time. You will have choices like Daily, Weekly, and Monthly. Choose the daily option that will be better.

Step 4. Then tap on ‘Account’. If you have more than one Gmail accounts, you can decide on which Gmail ID to use to backup your Whatsapp chat and videos.

The first option will be the email id that is used to sign into the Android device when you acquired it newly. You are at liberty to use a different email ID. You need to tap on the add account for this. And the instructions that appears should be followed.

Step 5. The next option in line is ‘Back up Over‘. Here, you select the type of internet connection to use in the backup. You can use only a Wi-Fi connection, that is, initiating a backup process via a Wi-Fi.

The second option is the use of either a Wi-Fi or cellular data (or a combination of both).

Step 6. On the Whatsapp Google Drive settings options, you also have the option of backing up videos. You can also make a backup of videos that are on the WhatsApp app by checking the “Include Videos” option.

Step 7. After carrying out the above settings, hit the BACK UP tab to initiate the process.

You can keep a backup in the phone’s internal storage by tapping on the backup first without providing your Gmail ID. But the backup of the phone will be deleted as soon as the data is removed from your internal storage.

How to backup Whatsapp on iPhone 

People who use WhatsApp on iPhone can also make similar backups. Open WhatsApp on iOS. Then go to Settings and navigate to Chat Settings.

You will see the option for chat and video backup. Just like that of the android, follow the same procedure and you are done. The ability to make backups in iOS is on iCloud.

How to restore Whatsapp Backup 

If you want to use Whatsapp on your new mobile and also want to see the old chat on it, then you have to hit the restore button on WhatsApp. While doing so, WhatsApp will ask you whether you want to use Wi-Fi data or cellular.

For this to work, you have to sign in with the same Google account you used while backing up your whatsapp chats and videos.
