As a car owner, it is very important to check the oil level in your car engine as it is as important as checking the gasoline level in your car. The function of the car engine oil is to lubricate and reduce friction on the moving parts of the engine, thereby making it run smoothly.
The color of your vehicle’s engine has a lot to say about what is happening or the working condition of your vehicle engine. The engine oil is always amber in color and as it constantly moves around in an engine, it gets dirty and sometimes contaminated by water to produce a frothy and cream-colored oil.
A dark engine oil can mean a lot of things ranging from the presence of additives, dirt, and contaminants to the oil being cycled through the car engine numerous times, and it is time for a change.
The oil level of your car should be checked as frequently as possible to know when there’s dirt or shortage of oil in the engine. You are to change the oil if it is dark and add oil if it is at the “add” portion of the dipstick.
Without wasting your time, let’s dive into the process of checking the oil level in your car engine.

How To Check The Oil In Your Car Engine
1. This should be done in the morning when the engine is cold or before starting your car engine. Draw out the dip stick (a device used to check oil level in an engine) and wipe it off on a clean, lint-free rag.
The image below shows the location of the dipstick for rear-wheel drive. Another name for rear-wheel drive cars is in-line engine cars.
Also the below shown image is for the dipstick location for front wheel drive or transverse engine cars.
2. Insert back the dipstick into the pipe. Sometimes, the dip stick gets stuck on the way inside the pipe. The remedy is to turn the dipstick around and insert into the pipe as the stick is flexible and can bend to pass through the curved pipe.
3. Pull out the dipstick again and look at the film of oil on the end of the stick. You are to top up the engine oil if the oil film is at the “add” region of the dipstick and change the oil if it is dark in color.
4. Insert the flexible dip stick into the pipe and you are done. Do you want to add oil into your car engine? You can pour in oil through the screw-off cap on top of the largest part of the engine.
In some cars, the cap is labeled “Oil Cap” or something related to that with the grade of oil that is best suited for the engine.
